Tracy Austin defends Rafa Nadal about what happened at Wimbledon

Rafael Nadal had an excellent year in 2022. The two-time Grand Slam champion from Spain has had a stellar year, coming back from an injury that sidelined him for a long time to win the Australian Open and Roland Garros.

Even Rafa’s own entourage had considered the possibility of a Grand Slam in a single year, which is what many people believe “appetite comes with food,” as the saying goes.

Even though he gave it his all at Wimbledon, Rafael Nadal was forced to pull out due to injury. During a press conference, the tennis player explained why he had decided to withdraw from the semifinal match against Nick Kyrgios: “A two-match victory like that would be unthinkable for me.

I don’t want to play because I don’t want things to go any worse, and because I don’t want to disrespect myself. As a result of problems with my foot, I’ve seen my professional career put in jeopardy.

My well-being is paramount to me, as I’ve stated time and time again.

To be here, I’ve had to put in a lot of effort, therefore I can’t stay gone too long. This is proving to be an extremely challenging task for me. This decision breaks my heart.”

Nadal retired following a five-set epic victory over Taylor Fritz in the tie-break of the fifth set. Rafa was out for the majority of the game due to an injury, this time an abdominal rip measuring seven millimeters in length.

Despite his best efforts, Rafa was unable to continue in the competition. Tracy Austin, a former world number one, has spoken out against people who have abused Rafael Nadal.

For many, Nadal should have retired from the match against Fritz to at least allow Fritz to play in the semi-finals, as was suggested on social media. Quoting Tracy Austin, “I disagree, because you never know how you’ll feel the next day until you’re in the middle of the game.

You may be able to play despite an injury better than you believe, and you may even be able to continue in the long run. After all, I can’t imagine him making a different decision in the end.”
