Carol falls in the last quali, but enters the double
Palermo (Italy) – Trying to get through the quali for the WTA 250 in Palermo, the Brazilian Carolina Meligeni Alves even overcame the opening match and reached the last round, but on Sunday she was eliminated from the competition when she was defeated by Russian Elina Avanesyan in straight sets, with the final score of 6/3 and 7/5.
Carol even started ahead and opened 3/1 in the first set, but then stalled in the scoreboard and could not win a single game, took two breaks in a row and saw the Russian rival, current 133rd in the world, win the next five games to close the partial.
The story of the second set was similar to the previous one, again with the Brazilian starting well and opening a lead, this time 2/0. Avanesyan returned the break soon after, tied the score at 2/2, saved a set-point with the serve to make 5/5 and then pulled out for the victory winning the next two games.
If the place in the singles didn’t come for Carol, at least in the doubles she will be able to play the main event. She entered the competition alongside Rebeca Pereira, also from São Paulo. The Brazilians’ debut will be against Czech Anastasia Detiuc and Polish Paula Kania.
