Pigossi enters Hamburg WTA with a win

Laura Pigossi, ranked 125th in the world, made her WTA 250 Hamburg debut on Sunday, winning the tournament’s premier event. Daria Kasatkina of Russia and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic will clash in the second round of the women’s singles competition at the Australian Open.

As the runner-up in Bogota, Laura is coming off a strong showing at the WTA 250 in Budapest, Hungary, where she knocked off world No. 100 Rebecca Petterson in the first round before losing in three sets to Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva, ranked 32nd in the world and the third favorite.
