Francisca Jorge surprised in the second round in Figueira

Francisca Jorge, who is ranked first in Portugal and 310th in the world by the WTA, was stunned on Thursday in the second round of the ITF W25 in Figueira da Foz, where she was defending her position as seventh seed and was the Portuguese player with the most championship hopes.

The five-time Portuguese champion lost in straight sets to a qualifier from the United States named Ashley Lahey, who was ranked 492nd on the WTA and had defeated Ana Filipa Santos the day before.

Earlier in the day, Mariana Campino (unranked) was beaten in the second round by American qualifier Jenna DeFalco (590th WTA), 6-1, 6-0, in 63 minutes.
