Miguel Gomes in the ‘quarters’ of an international tournament for the first time
Miguel Gomes, a youngster of 19 years old who excelled in his final year of junior high school, confirmed this Thursday the best result of his brief professional career by reaching the quarterfinals of the second M25 event in Idanha-a-Nova on the ITF Pro Circuit.
This young man from Nazaré, ranked 1616 on the ATP tour, advanced to the quarterfinals on Friday by defeating Mateuz Kulakowski, a 19-year-old Pole with no world ranking, in a two-hour and seven-minute match that went to a tiebreaker. Keep in mind that the ‘quarters’ already included Duarte Vale, Pedro Arajo (who will be facing each other), and Francisco Rocha.
However, 18-year-old Vasco Prata, who is (yet) unranked in the world, was defeated in 56 minutes by Patael, the 554th ATP and the winner of the first ITF Idanha tournament a week ago.
