Lorenzo Musetti discusses Carlos Alcaraz’s unexpected loss in Hamburg and his thoughts on the matter.
While celebrating his first ATP title in Hamburg, Lorenzo Musetti upset No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz. Musetti defeated Alcaraz in the Hamburg final with a score of 6-4, 6-7 (6), and 6-4.
“It was a wild ride to the very end, and I find myself at a loss for words. Countless match points were in my favor. Even though I had numerous opportunities to win the match, Carlos was consistently excellent on match points “According to the ATP website, Musetti made the following statement after winning his first ATP title.
“However, I believe that remaining calm and having all the patience I could muster with myself was the key to winning the match. When Carlos was down in the match, he was putting everything he had into the match points, so it was difficult to muster the energy to come back.
The emotions I’m experiencing right now, however, defy description. Perhaps this is all a dream.”
The loss Musetti narrowly avoided was devastating.
In the 10th game of the second set, Musetti missed on two match points on his serve before missing on three more in the tie-break.
Alcaraz appeared to be on his way to an incredible comeback victory in the final after fending off five match points in the second set. But Musetti was able to forget what happened in the second set and come out on top in straight sets.
Musetti won the match with a break in the tenth game of the third set, when Alcaraz was serving to keep the match alive. The twenty-year-old Musetti was overjoyed, not just for himself but also for his loved ones and his entire team. Musetti went on to say that he was grateful for the efforts of both his family and his team. “For me, for my team, for my family, for my friends, and for the people who really love me,” Musetti said. I intend to keep going and, God willing, I intend to keep going like this for a while.
