Jaime Faria reaches the ‘semi-finals’ for the first time after a hard battle with Francisco Rocha
Jaime Faria is in the international event semifinals for the first time in his career. The 18-year-old, one of the brightest prospects in Portuguese tennis, prevailed in a closely contested match against fellow countryman Francisco Rocha, who is competing in the North American university circuit, to advance to Castelo Branco’s “semi-finals.”
Faria, who is ranked 1047 in the ATP rankings, won in two sets with scores of 7-6(4) and 6-3 in 2h18, moving up to 1867 in the overall rankings for men. The winner of the match between Diego Fernandez Flores and Kody Pearson will now face the Lisboner, who had already defeated the top seed.
Fábio Coelho was unsuccessful in reaching the semifinals. Robin Bertrand (560th) moved up to number 1085 in the ATP rankings after successfully defending his position as the second seed with half scores of 6-1 and 6-4. The third seed, Pedro Arajo, will now attempt to enter the cast of the semi-finals.
