Jaime Faria closes a dream week and becomes champion in Castelo Branco

Dreamy! One day after winning the first doubles title, Jaime Faria finished off an ideal week in Castelo Branco by capturing his first international singles title. The 18-year-old Portuguese rookie, ranked 1047 in the ATP rankings, finished the week without dropping a set in either version and set up a great entry into the champions gallery.

In the final, Faria defeated the second favorite, the Frenchman Robin Bertrand (560th), who had already defeated the top seed. The Lisboner triumphed in a match when Jaime Faria shown his ability to handle difficulty with scores of 6-3 and 7-6(6) in 2h07.

The Portuguese attempted a shot from three breaks in the beginning, one on each side. He had a match point at 5-4, on Bertrand’s service, then narrowed the gap in the second game with a service break advantage before entering the tie-break. He lost another championship point there as well before announcing that third times a charm.

After shining with Fábio Coelho to win the doubles trophy, likewise without allowing a single partial escape, a dream week comes to a close with a victory in singles without giving sets and defeating the two key players of the competition.

Hello, I'm Antonio Zaccaro, tennis lover since I was 13. I started this blog out of pure passion, and now it has become my job. I constantly follow all the tournaments and I am always updated on all the news. What I know, I share with all my readers. My considerations are the result of hours and hours spent in front of screens and on tennis courts.
