“It’s not the epilogue that…”: Carlos Alcaraz disappointed after knockout against Jannik Sinner

Young Spanish tennis prodigy Carlos Alcaraz increasingly seems to be cursed by Italian tennis players. The Italian tennis players have defeated the Murcian four times this year (and he hasn’t lost that much), including two recent finals.

The Iberian tennis player fell and was utterly destroyed against Sinner after losing to Musetti in Hamburg. Alcaraz physically collapsed after Jannik won the first set in a tiebreaker (after winning three of the previous three tiebreaks between the two). Jannik never gave up and won the battle of the youthful titans by force.

Sinner‘s first career victory on clay is evidence that he can hit on any major circuit surface. In the post-match interview, the Italian number one was glowing while Alcaraz was reflecting on the loss.

“This is the second time this year that Jannik has defeated me. It’s been a terrific week, and I applaud you and your team for the way you and they prepared for this match.

I’m wishing you luck as you start this season. This is a tournament I enjoy, so I want to thank everyone who helped in its planning, including the tournament director. Even though it’s not the happy ending we all hoped for, I believe I played well this week.

I can learn from this setback what I need to do differently in the future. I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone. My family is here, and I’m grateful to have you here with me. I appreciate your unwavering support.

I enjoy playing here because it’s where I won my first championship, and I plan to return here again the following year.”
