Why Ashleigh Barty’s retirement was a “huge blow” to tennis, according to Annabel Croft

Ashleigh Barty’s playing has “so much to admire,” according to Annabel Croft, and her unexpected decision to retire from tennis was a “huge blow” to the sport. Barty announced his unexpected retirement from tennis in March at the age of 25.

Barty was the best player in the world when she announced her retirement. Barty began this season by taking home consecutive victories at the Australian Open and Adelaide International. At the time of her retirement announcement, Barty was the best player in the world and had not suffered a loss in 2022.

Although it wasn’t ideal for women’s tennis, Croft told Tennis 365, “She showed everyone how to end a career on a tremendous high after winning the Australian Open and quitting right away.” It was an excellent tale.

She spent time playing cricket after spending time climbing to the top, and she now wants to do something new. She obviously has other interests, but her retirement from the sport was a great blow because she contributed so much to it.

It is a shame she won’t be around because there was so much to respect about her game and so much the next generation could learn from her. She has other goals for her life. We can only wish her the best since she may one day experience new things, become a mother, etc.

Barty acknowledged that she had trouble keeping herself motivated.

Barty won Wimbledon last year, fulfilling a boyhood ambition. When Barty won the Australian Open in front of her home crowd in the early months of 2022, she also fulfilled another ambition.

Barty believed that winning the Australian Open was the cherry on top and that it was the ideal time for her to retire from the sport. Since retiring from tennis, Barty has been dabbling in golf, and some speculate that the Australian would choose to take up another professional sport.
