Holger Rune: The rivalry between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer definitely stands out to me.
The Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal rivalry, according to Holger Rune, is what “sticks out” for him since he believes it to be the most famous rivalry in tennis history. Rune, 19, adored watching Federer and Nadal compete as a child.
Rune agreed that the rivalry between Novak Djokovic and Federer and Nadal couldn’t be disregarded, but claimed that Federer versus Nadal is just the one that stands out. The ATP asked numerous players to share their favorite rivalry in honor of the 50th anniversary of the ATP Tour’s founding.
“In my opinion, the Federer–Nadal match has been quite compelling. In a video for the ATP, Rune remarked, “I watched so many of their matches, and while I would say the same about Federer – Novak and Rafa – Novak, Federer – Nadal really jumps out for me growing up.
Federer–Nadal is cited by Rune and Andrey Rublev as the greatest rivalry.
Rublev concurs with Rune that the greatest tennis rivalry has been between Federer and Nadal. Nadal defeated Federer in the 2008 Wimbledon final, which is regarded as one of the best tennis matches ever played, to earn his maiden championship at The Championships.
Although there have been many incredible matches, Rublev stated, “My favorite tennis rivalry is Rafa and Roger Wimbledon finals. The first thing that came to my mind is Rafa-Roger Wimbledon final maybe in 2008.” When questioned about the best tennis rivalries, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the 2022 Monte Carlo Masters runner-up, noted the rivalries amongst the Big Three.
“Well, I definitely found Roger-Rafa, Djoko-Rafa, and Federer-Djoko to be the most enjoyable. The Big Three were probably my favorites. It’s going to be a fantastic match, you know. Even if they do poorly, it will still be a great game. Then it becomes fascinating,” said Davidovich Fokina. With Federer, Nadal has a head-to-head record of 24-16.
