Portugal loses a dramatic semi-final to Spain in the Veterans World Cup

The men’s +35 World Masters Championship has put a stop to the Portuguese dream. The National Team lost a close match at the Jamor Tennis Complex against Spain in the semi-final, which was quite challenging.

Before Fred Gil reclaimed the lead and tied the match by defeating Angel Alonso-Campos, 6-4 and 7-5, Rui Machado lost his singles match against Carlos Garca-Villanueva by scores of 6-4 and 6-2.

Everything depended on the pairing. The hopes of Portugal were dashed when Fred Gil and Gonçalo Nicau were defeated by Jorge Hernando-Ruano and Ricardo Villacorta, 7-6(3) and 6-4. Spain and France will now play for third and fourth place, and the United States will play the United States.

Also take note that the women’s team will face Germany in the semifinals coming Thursday.

My considerations are the result of hours and hours spent in front of screens and on tennis courts.
