Garbine Muguruza’s difficult 2022 season begins today.

Garbine Muguruza, a former world number one, stated that this has been a difficult season for her and that she has had confidence issues all season. Muguruza, who won the WTA Finals to end the 2021 season, has an unimpressive 12/15 in 2022.

Muguruza came into the 2022 season with lofty goals, but up to this moment, her season has been a huge letdown. According to Tennishead, Muguruza acknowledged that the season has been difficult and somewhat unpredictable.

“I’m not sure if I’ll be able to have a different feeling after these recent events. That is my aim. I believe that everything comes down to confidence and how well or how many matches you’ve been playing.

This year, I definitely feel like I haven’t played as many games, so when the big moments arrive, you really sense that confidence that isn’t quite there. I believe that if I keep trying and trying and trying, eventually I will succeed.

Muguruza had a successful debut in Tokyo.

The third-seeded player in Tokyo, Muguruza, received a bye in the opening round of the competition. Despina Papamichail, who was ranked 213rd, was defeated by Muguruza in the round of 16 6-4, 6-2. In the first game of the encounter, Muguruza broke Papamichail, but the Greek soon broke back.

In the fifth game, Muguruza broke Papamichail once more to take a 3-2 lead after dropping an early first set break. After that, Muguruza continued to hold her serve for the remainder of the opening set to win it. Muguruza opened the second set with back-to-back breaks and a commanding 4-0 lead after winning the first.

Papamichail was unable to rally from a set and two breaks behind as Muguruza held on to her serve for the remainder of the match to secure a two-set victory. Wang Xinyu or Liudmila Samsonova will play before Muguruza.
