The Romanian tennis player issued a statement soon after the ITIA announced Halep’s suspension. Halep said in her address to the public that she would never cheat in any way.

“I received a notification that I tested positive for Roxadustat in a very small amount, which was the biggest shock of my life. Since cheating completely goes against all the morals I was raised with, I never once considered it throughout my entire career.

I feel utterly cheated and absolutely puzzled as I deal with this terrible scenario. I have trust that the truth will eventually come out, and I will battle to the bitter end to demonstrate that I never intentionally used any illegal substances.

The titles or money are not important. It’s about honor and the romance I’ve grown over the past 25 years with tennis, Halep said in a statement. Halep and Mouratoglou began working together in April.

Halep had a nose operation following the US Open, ending her season. Ten days ago, Mouratoglou declared that he had agreed to mentor Holger Rune through the remainder of the current campaign. Mouratoglou also emphasized that Halep had given him the go-ahead to work with Rune while she was recuperating from surgery. It is unknown when Halep will be ready to play tennis again.
