Because he was competing against an Italian in the championship match of an Italian tournament, Lorenzo Musetti acknowledged that he didn’t play his best tennis in the Naples final and that he was “very emotional and scared.”
Musetti defeated Matteo Berrettini, another Italian, on Sunday 7-6 (5) 6-2. Following the match, Musetti commended Berrettini‘s performance while admitting that his fellow countryman wasn’t at full strength. The Wimbledon runner-up in 2021, Berrettini, was hindered by a foot injury.
“The opening set was incredibly challenging. lengthy and without interruptions. Matteo is [a competitor], but he wasn’t physically healthy. It was a significant challenge for me to figure out how long he could hold out and fight. Due to the fact that I believe we were both quite emotional, anxious, and under a lot of pressure today, I don’t think I played my greatest tennis, but I did play better during the crucial times.
After defeating Berrettini, Musetti stated, “It’s incredibly good to be here with my family, with the spectators, and it’s a really huge win for me and an important time for my career.
