Bianca Andreescu, a former world No. 4, was quite pleased with how she handled 25th-seeded Marie Bouzkova in her Australian Open first-round match and is now anticipating a possible matchup with Iga Swiatek.

Andreescu, who is now ranked No. 43 in the world, defeated Bouzkova with a score of 6-2, 6-4 to start off her Australian Open campaign. Andreescu started strong, breaking Bouzkova twice in the opening set to clinch the match. No breaks were recorded in the second set until the tenth game, when Andreescu broke Bouzkova in crucial circumstances to complete a two-set victory.

“I felt like I performed well today. Marie did present a difficulty, but I’m just pleased with how I overcame it. I basically wanted to play every match that way, so I was totally concentrated from start to finish. Hopefully I can keep the momentum going.

Considering my most recent bout, I was highly motivated. Without a doubt, I didn’t want to allow her any room to maybe turn around “As reported by Sportskeeda, Andreescu.

Andreescu hopes to play Swiatek Swiatek, the No. 1 seed, defeated Jule Niemeier to earn a matchup with Camila Osorio in the second round.

In the meanwhile, Cristina Bucsa will be Andreescu’s opponent in the second round. If Swiatek and Andreescu prevail in their second-round contests, they would face one another in the third round. Andreescu, who hopes to return to the top 10 this year, acknowledges that if she faces Swiatek, she will be fiercely motivated and adamant about defeating her.

“However, I believe I did see something on Twitter. We could be dating, myself and her. Having fun, if I make it there. I’ve put in a ton of effort, so I am aware of my potential. Since it’s difficult to be consistent like that in tennis, looking at Iga, or someone like her, is tremendously encouraging and motivating.

I therefore fully support her. It definitely gives me motivation, and as I previously stated, I am confident that I can return to that position in 2019, if not better “said Andreescu.
