Following their Australian Open match, 20-year-old Emma Raducanu was all praise for Cori Gauff and anticipated there will be many more of such matchups in the future. The 18-year-old Gauff upset Raducanu 6-3, 7-6 (4) in the second round of the Australian Open.

The winner of the 2021 US Open, Raducanu, faced 2022 French Open semifinalist Gauff for the first time. “She is an excellent athlete and mover. You feel like you need to squeeze the ball closer to the line as a result of her adding another ball into the mix, and she uses it as a technique to tease errors out of you.

She’s a good athlete, in my opinion. One of her assets is it. Given that we are both still young and developing, I believe that we will frequently play against one another in the future. The following generation will be made up of us, “According to Sky Sports, Raducanu described Gauff.

Gauff wasn’t defeated by Raducanu without a battle.

After losing her service in the fourth game, Raducanu found herself down a break, but she broke Gauff back in the fifth. As the American broke the Briton in the sixth game and held on to her serve the rest of the set to take the first set, Raducanu dropped her service once more shortly after recovering her break.

Gauff broke Raducanu in the third game of the second set to take the lead by a set and a break. The eighth game saw Raducanu recover the break because she persisted in playing. No more breaks were seen, so a tie-break was required to decide the second set.

Gauff and Raducanu were level at two points each in the tie-break, but the American won the next four points to take the lead 6-2. Gauff defeated the Briton in two sets after Raducanu had saved the first two match points but failed to do so on the third.

Raducanu is about to head back home. Prior to that, Raducanu began her 2023 season in Auckland, where she won her first-round match before crashing out of her round-of-16 match due to an injury.
