The men’s squad from University of Texas in Austin won their first game against Florida.

According to the UT website, on January 15, the University of Texas at Austin men’s team defeated Florida 5-2 at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville to kick off the 2023 campaign. Texas began its spring schedule by capturing the singles and doubles championships at the Miami Spring Invite, a competition that took place from January 6–8 in Coral Gables, Florida. Eliot Spizzirri won the top prize with a perfect 3-0 singles record, and Chih Chi Huang and Eshan Talluri tied him in the doubles category. The Longhorns defeated Georgian players in three top-25 singles matches on the final day of competition. Pierre-Yves Bailly defeated No. 1 Ethan Quinn, Spizzirri defeated No. 10 Philip Henning, and Talluri defeated No. 21 Blake Croyder to earn his first career victory over a ranked opponent in singles. In addition, the Longhorns visit No. 2 Ohio State (Feb. 5), No. 3 TCU (Mar. 4) and No. 13 Stanford (Mar. 9). Because the game against TCU is scheduled before Big 12 play, it is a non-conference matchup. No. 12 Georgia (Jan. 22), No. 19 Pepperdine (Feb. 10), No. 15 Arizona (Feb. 12), No. 23 Texas A&M (Feb. 26), No. 21 NC State (Mar. 14), and No. 8 USC will all be visiting Texas at home (Mar. 26) Texas, which will begin its fifth season under head coach Bruce Berque, has nearly all of its regular singles and doubles lineups back from the 2022 squad, which overcame an injury-plagued season to finish with an 18-11 record, its eighth consecutive season of 18 or more wins, an appearance in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, and a fourth consecutive trip to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
