The 2023 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships were won by Barbora Krejcikova. During her final match in the competition, the Czech overcame top seed Iga Swiatek in the championship match on Saturday. Having played for one hour and 31 minutes, Krejcikova prevailed 6-4, 6-2.

Swiatek was considered the favorite because of his excellent performance as the final’s main attraction. Krejcikova, though, explained her strategy clearly from the off. Both players exchanged breaks a few times in the opening set before Krejcikova earned a third break on Swiatek’s serve in the ninth game.

She didn’t turn around again after that. Compared to Swiatek’s 57%, the 2021 Roland Garros champion won 70% of her points on the first serve. On the second serve from the Pole, she also won 77% of the points on return. Krejcikova won 57% of the points on her own second serve.

In comparison to Swiatek, who had 10, the 27-year-old had 13 more victories and eight fewer unforced errors. She outscored Swiatek 44 to 64 in the final round.

The winning streak that the three-time Slam champion had started in Doha when she won the title here came to an end with Krejcikova’s victory over Swiatek.

In the meantime, Krejcikova said in a statement to the media following her victory, “I think I played my best tennis this week. I’m incredibly pleased with the way I performed, how I managed to play tennis while also controlling my anxiety and simply take in everything that was happening this week on the court.

Barbora Krejcikova’s week at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships has been fascinating. In order to defeat Daria Kasatkina in the second round, she had to hold off a couple match points. She was then defeated in the first set of her quarterfinal encounter against Aryna Sabalenka before turning the tide and surprising the current champion of the Australian Open.
