According to OptaAce, 27-year-old Barbora Krejcikova is the sixth female player to defeat all three top-3 competitors en route to winning a title, joining a select group that also includes Serena Williams. In Dubai, Krejcikova competed in a WTA 1000 tournament, where she defeated the top-ranked players in the world—Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Jessica Pegula—en route to winning the title.

In the Dubai final on Saturday, Krejcikova defeated top-seeded Swiatek 6-4, 6-2. Krejcikova has now joined the group that also includes Sabalenka, Steffi Graf, Serena and Venus Williams.

On her way to winning the Dubai championship, Krejcikova defeated Petra Kvitova, who was ranked 15, and Daria Kasatkina, who was ranked 15.

When Krejcikova first arrived in Dubai, she “did not expect” to succeed.

Krejcikova’s trip to the Middle East didn’t exactly start off well. In the Abu Dhabi round of 16, Krejcikova lost to Liudmila Samsonova 7-5, 7-6 (6) in early February.

After losing by a razor-thin margin in Abu Dhabi, Veronika Kudermetova defeated Krejcikova 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5) in her opening match in Doha. Krejcikova didn’t expect to do well in Dubai after two sad defeats in Abu Dhabi and Doha, but she did want to try to enjoy herself on the court.

“After I lost in the second round of my last two tournaments, I’ll be honest and say no. I suffered my first loss last week. I was actually battling. They were really, extremely tight matches, but it didn’t work out for me. In fact, when I arrived here this week, I simply told myself, “Alright, let’s enjoy it.”

I think my game is going great. I could use some more good fortune. As the games progressed, I mean, in the second round, I prevented the loss of four match points. At last, I had the thought, “Well, this is my lucky day; this is what I’ve been waiting for.” I believe that after it, my performance just became better “After defeating Pegula in the Dubai semifinal, Krejcikova gave an explanation.
