With victories in Adelaide and the Australian Open to start the year, Novak Djokovic replaced Alcaraz atop the ATP rankings. Novak set his eyes on 400 weeks on top after becoming the only player with 378 weeks as the top player.

After winning the US Open and becoming the youngest world No. 1 in ATP history, Alcaraz was in a far stronger position than Djokovic. Carlos had the chance to add to his already outstanding trophy cabinet, but instead of building on that, he only participated in a few tournaments at the end of the season.

Due to an abdominal injury, the Spaniard withdrew from the Paris Masters quarterfinal match and missed the ATP Finals and Davis Cup Finals. He nevertheless set another age record that will be challenging to top as he concluded the season and the year in first place.

Due to a leg injury, Alcaraz was unable to compete at the Australian Open and lost the ATP crown to Djokovic. Djokovic, on the other hand, has been a man to beat since Wimbledon last year, not dropping a set while taking home six championships in the previous seven events.

After falling short in the quarterfinals a year ago, Novak will be seeking additional victories in Dubai the following week. If Indian Wells and Miami are out of the question, the Serb will play on clay in the Monte Carlo tournament in Banja Luka in April.

Before the action in this ATP 500 began, Novak Djokovic had previously practiced in Dubai, where he had also enjoyed the beaches. Carlos Alcaraz, meanwhile, advanced to the ATP 500 final in Rio de Janeiro, where he will take on Cameron Norrie of Great Britain.

Djokovic has a 12-0 streak to start the year.

When he lost the US Open final to Daniil Medvedev in 2021, Novak Djokovic was one match away from becoming the first person since Rod Laver in 1969 to complete the calendar Grand Slam, which is accomplished by winning all four Majors in a single season.

For the 2023 season, Todd Woodbridge, a former world number one in doubles, has more faith in Nole than ever. “In my opinion, Novak Djokovic now has the best chance to complete the calendar Grand Slam. That, in my opinion, is his sole objective for this season.

He might check his calendar, in my opinion. He will arrange it so that it is at its best during the four Majors. How come I believe he can? Because he developed the ability to control a tremendous amount of tension and worry, the Aussie remarked in the AO Show podcast.

The Serb has traveled one-fourth of the distance. The following stage is known as Roland-Garros (May 28 to June 11).
