Emma Raducanu will encounter a different Grand Slam winner at the Stuttgart debut.
Emma Raducanu will meet Jelena Ostapenko, the winner of the 2017 French Open, in Stuttgart, which will make for a challenging opening match. A main draw wildcard into a WTA 500 event in Stuttgart was given to Raducanu, who is now ranked No. 68 in the world.
It will be Raducanu and world No. 22 Ostapenko’s second encounter when they square off. Raducanu and Ostapenko clashed in the semifinal of Seoul in late 2022. At that point, Ostapenko was in up 4-6 6-3 3-0 when Raducanu was forced to leave the match due to injury.
Raducanu will face third-seeded Ons Jabeur in the round of 16 in Stuttgart if she defeats Ostapenko.
Raducanu is eager to compete against a talented Stuttgart playing field.
Raducanu made her Stuttgart clay court debut last year.
“Yes, indeed! Raducanu told Porsche-Tennis, “I had a terrific experience last year and performed well. It’s a fun tournament and really professionally handled so I’m really looking forward to returning to Stuttgart. Several top-10 athletes, including Jabeur, Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Caroline Garcia, are competing in the Stuttgart tournament.
Raducanu lost to Swiatek in the quarterfinals of the Stuttgart tournament the previous year. Raducanu has expressed excitement about taking part in the competitive Stuttgart player field. “The competition consistently draws the best players in the globe.
There will be some excellent tennis to watch and fierce competition thanks to the big field. It’s a task I appreciate because I like to push myself and compete against the top players in the world,” Raducanu remarked. Now that Raducanu has a little more familiarity with clay, she is hoping that it will benefit her performance in Stuttgart.
Since the previous clay court season, I haven’t played on clay, but I’m eager to do so once more. My initial practice sessions have already taken place. It will be enjoyable to resume playing on clay after my first true experience with it last year, when I was happy with my growth, remarked Raducanu.
