Donna Vekic is relieved that everything has finally fallen into place for her and is now hoping that she stays healthy and continues to produce positive outcomes. The 26-year-old Vekic had a great start to the 2023 season, winning all three of her United Cup matches and advancing to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open before falling to the eventual winner Aryna Sabalenka.

Vekic also performed well in February, reaching the quarterfinal of the Linz tournament and winning her first championship of the year in Monterrey. For Vekic, who was eliminated in the second round at Indian Wells and the third round of Miami, the Sunshine Double wasn’t actually all that wonderful.

Vekic defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-6 (7) 7-6 (5) on Monday to begin her clay-court season. Vekic has a fantastic record with 17 victories and only four losses thus far in 2023. “I am surrounded by a tremendously strong team.

For years, I put a lot of effort into getting results, but suddenly, everything came together. So hopefully I’ll continue to be healthy and play like this,” Vekic stated, according to The Tennis Letter.

Vekic defeated Alexandrova in two close sets.

Vekic broke Alexandrova early in the game to take an early 3-0 lead.

Vekic was serving for the first set in the ninth game when Alexandrova broke him back, forcing a tie-break to decide the opening set. Vekic had a 6-4 lead and two straight set opportunities in the first set tie-break, but Alexandrova took the next three games to take a 7-6 lead.

Vekic won the following three points to take the opening set despite being down 7-6 and having a set point. Vekic dropped an early break in the second set but saved a set point on her serve in the 12th game. Alexandrova led Vekic 5-4 in the tie-break of the second set until Vekic claimed the next three points to seal the victory in two sets. The winner of the match between Maria Sakkari and Karolina Pliskova will go up against Vekic next.

My considerations are the result of hours and hours spent in front of screens and on tennis courts.
