Novak Djokovic was hailed by Holger Rune as “a huge inspiration” and for always being “extremely kind” to him. When Rune, now 19, was 13 years old, he first met Djokovic, who has since given the Dane some advise and pointers.

Rune is very appreciative of Djokovic and hopes to win numerous Grand Slams and become world No. 1 in the future. “Without a doubt, he played a significant role in my development.” He has actually been assisting me by completing certain exercises, too.

Actually, I was 13 or 14 years old when we first started working out together on these hard courts. He is a great inspiration and continues to prove that he was among the best players to ever play the game.

Rune won his biggest championship by beating Djokovic.

In the November Paris Masters final, Rune defeated Djokovic 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. It was Rune’s first Masters victory.

Rune also had his first appearance in the top 10 after winning in Paris. Rune referred to defeating Djokovic in the Paris Masters championship match as “the biggest moment” of his career earlier this year. For me, it was a really positive experience.

It was the most significant event in both my professional and perhaps overall lives. So, it was enormous. It gave me more confidence to know that I could compete against him at his level and gave me a lot of optimism for this year. And fortunately, I still harbor that hope.
