Stan Wawrinka was warmly welcomed by the Srpska Open crowd, and Banja Luka mayor Drasko Stanivukovic personally praised the Swiss for participating. As Van Assche went on to stage a significant comeback, Wawrinka ultimately paid the price. Van Assche couldn’t contain his joy after the game and referred to Wawrinka as “an amazing legend.” “I’m thrilled with my victory. It was nice to perform for you all.

Van Assche remarked after defeating Wawrinka, “It’s normal that at first [the fans] were behind Stan because he’s a fantastic legend of the sport and I’m really glad to win this match.
