Prior to their encounter in Banja Luka, rising star Luca Van Assche praised Novak Djokovic a great deal and stated that his objective is to defeat the No. 1 player in the world. In the opening round of the Srpska Open, Van Assche, 18, defeated three-time Grand Slam victor Stan Wawrinka with a score of 1-6 7-6 (4) 6-4.

The 87th-ranked Van Assche will have the chance to play Djokovic for the first time in his career as a reward for his impressive victory over Wawrinka. The entire stadium in Banja Luka will undoubtedly be in Djokovic‘s favor when he faces Van Assche because he is a local favorite.

“Playing Djokovic is truly a privilege. A tennis legend, he. He’s a beast, but I have no idea if he’s the GOAT. While I may not necessarily consider him to be my favorite player, I have a great deal of respect for him, his career, and everything he contributes to the sport.

I’m confident I can compete. In a stadium where Djokovic is being supported, it will be really challenging, but I won’t make it simple for him. Anyhow, I’m going to give it a shot. When asked about Van Assche, Djokovic said he didn’t know much about the Frenchman but yet gave the 18-year-old high compliments. “I don’t know much about this man, but I do know that he entered the Top 100. Wawrinka led the entire match, so I predicted that he would win.

Nobody should be undervalued because he is a young warrior, fast, and agile in these circumstances, Djokovic remarked. Anything other than a straightforward victory for Djokovic over Van Assche would be a great shock.
