In the opening round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix on Monday, Qinwen Zheng defeated Alycia Parks. The world number 25 needed one hour and forty-one minutes to defeat the American easily, 6-4, 6-4. High percentages of first-served points were earned by both players.

Zheng won 87% of her first-serve points, compared to Parks’ 79%. Zheng, however, fared better on second-serve points, winning 16 of the 30 second-serve points that were played. On Parks’ second serve, the 20-year-old won 19 of 34 points upon returning.

Parks’ 11 double faults, compared to her opponent’s nine, were another disappointment. While securing a break in each set and saving the one break point she faced, Zheng managed to prevail.

Iga Swiatek and Qinwen Zheng’s rivalry is revived in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.

Zheng will compete against top-seeded Iga Swiatek in the following round.

The Pole, who is this week defending her 2022 championship, has triumphed in each of their two prior encounters. These two matches took place in 2022 at the San Diego Open and Roland Garros, respectively. Zheng did, however, extend the battles before Swiatek was able to prevail.

When Zheng spoke about her second encounter with Swiatek, she remarked, “The first time I met her, she was No. 1 in the world, and I was coming from nowhere. It was my first time playing in that setting. I believe I have a little more experience now.

I hope to perform well in the upcoming game. I want to play the best tennis I can. You know, nothing is ever guaranteed in tennis. Tennis is beautiful because of this. Meanwhile, Cristina Bucsa defeated Tamara Korpatsch 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 in their all-qualifier first-round match.

To defeat the local, the Spaniard needed two hours and 20 minutes. Bucsa will face either fellow countrywoman Paula Badosa or seventh seed Daria Kasatkina in the second round. The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix second round also saw the advancement of Donna Vekic.

On Monday, the Croat defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-6(7), 7-6(5). Vekic won in a little more than two hours. She is now awaiting either eighth seed Maria Sakkari or Karolina Pliskova. Porsche Tennis Grand Prix Twitter, source of picture
