If Emma Raducanu doesn’t perform well in her forthcoming clay-court competitions, she might need a Wimbledon wildcard. In the opening round of the Stuttgart Open, Raducanu, who was ranked 68th in the world on Monday, was brutally defeated by Jelena Ostapenko, 6-1, 6-2.

Raducanu advanced to the quarterfinals of a WTA 500 competition in Stuttgart last year. Raducanu will lose ground and slip in the standings as a result of her elimination in the first round at this year’s Stuttgart competition. Raducanu is currently rated 83rd in the world in the live rankings.

A WTA 1000 competition will be held in Madrid the following week. Raducanu will drop out of the top 100 for the first time since joining it in September 2021 if she loses early in Madrid.

Will Raducanu need a wildcard into Wimbledon?
